These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Daniel Mercer ("we", "us"), the publisher of the Sriftok Code mobile app ("the app"). How we handle data is covered separately in our Privacy Policy. In short, the app keeps everything on your device.

Lesson 01

Accepting these Terms

By downloading, installing or using the app, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the app, and uninstall it.

If you're under the age of majority where you live, a parent or guardian should review these Terms with you.

Lesson 02

Your license to use the app

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the app on devices you own or control, for your own learning and non-commercial use.

You may not:

  • copy, resell, rent or redistribute the app or its lesson content;
  • decompile, reverse-engineer or modify the app, except where the law allows it despite this restriction;
  • remove copyright or ownership notices;
  • use the app's lessons to build a competing course product.
Key conceptYou can learn from it as much as you like, but you can't repackage it.
Lesson 03

Using the app and the code editor

The app has lessons, practice exercises and a built-in editor that runs code on your device. It's a learning tool, not a professional development environment. Please use it responsibly:

  • Don't use the editor to write, test or distribute malware or harmful code, or to try to get around your device's security.
  • Don't try to break out of the app's practice sandbox or interfere with how the app works.
  • Output, error hints and syntax highlighting are there to help you learn. They may not match every compiler or runtime exactly.
Key conceptIt's a place to practise. Don't use it for production code or anything harmful.
Lesson 04

Your code and your progress

Code you write in the app belongs to you. We don't claim ownership and we don't receive it, because it's stored only on your device.

Since nothing is stored in the cloud, you're responsible for your own data. Uninstalling the app, resetting your device or losing it may permanently delete your progress and code. Any backup is handled by your device's own backup features.

Key conceptYour code is yours and it stays on your phone. If it gets deleted there, it's gone.
Lesson 05

Our content

The app itself, including its lessons, exercises, explanations, design, name and logo, belongs to Daniel Mercer or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. Short code snippets from lessons may be reused in your own projects. The course material as a whole may not be reused.

We work hard to keep the lessons accurate, but programming languages change and mistakes happen. The content is for education only.

Key conceptYou can use snippets freely, but the course itself belongs to us.
Lesson 06

App stores, pricing and updates

You got the app through a third-party store such as the Apple App Store or Google Play. That store's terms also apply, and any payment, refund or billing is handled by the store under its own policies. The app has no subscription.

We may release updates that add, change or remove lessons or features. We may also stop offering the app. Versions already installed keep working offline, as far as your device and operating system allow.

Apple users: these Terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide support or maintenance for the app, and isn't responsible for claims about it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them.

Lesson 07

Warranty and liability

The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows. We don't guarantee that the app will be error-free, uninterrupted, or that it will prepare you for any exam, certification or job.

To the fullest extent the law allows, Daniel Mercer isn't liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for loss of data, progress or code, arising from your use of the app. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the app, if anything, in the 12 months before the claim.

Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under mandatory consumer protection laws where you live.

Lesson 08

Ending, changes, law and contact

  • Termination: you can stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it. Your license ends automatically if you break these Terms.
  • Changes: we may update these Terms. When we do, we'll post the new version on this page with a new effective date. If you keep using the app after that, you accept the updated Terms.
  • Governing law: these Terms are governed by the laws of the publisher's place of residence, unless mandatory law in your country of residence says otherwise.
  • Severability: if any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
